Default Fi bl 12 needs new basket

Hello, I have a Fi Audio bl 12, fully loaded with 4 inch vc. Unfortunatly usps dropped it, and cracked/broke parts off the basket. I glued it together and have been playing it for a while now, so I know the motor is still good. Im wondering how much it would cost for a new basket, and recone? I would also like to make the subwoofer dual 1 ohm, instead of the dual 2 ohm it is now. I will be feeding the subwoofer about 1500w- 1700 rms at 14.4v. at 2 Ohm. Thanks

Could you post up some photos of this sub? The BL is a 3" coil. I wonder what you have there?

they made the bl with a 4 inch coil option for 1 year and then discontinued it....cuz sales wer lacking....but it should take a 4 layer 4 inch coil....all they did was keep the standard gap just in 4 inch coil

OP - you will need to post up some really good photos or dimensions of the gap (unless you want to ship it to us) if we are to send you a drop-in kit. We've never done a 4" BL before, but I'm sure that we can.

no what he needs is you to either send the woofer to him
OR dis assemble it yourself and measure ( with dial calipers) the inside and outside diameter of the coil gap in the motor (magnet)

Hmmmm....well, If it's as kickinblazer says, it should be standard gap. I'd really like to have some kind of price range before I sent it out. Or if Fix my speaker could send me a new basket, and recone kit, I would be willing to do the repair myself. As I mentioned, the subwoofer is installed and playing now, but I have amp wired to 4 ohm, because my cars electrical cant keep up with amp at 1 ohm. This is why I want to have ohms changed to dual 1 ohm, so I can wire in series, and keep my amp happy at 2 ohm. I am still learning, so I am not sure how they change the resistance values on speakers.

your totally 100% missing the point of what he said and i said
he told you he's never reconed a 4' coil BL before..therefore he does NOT know what type of coil will fit..
therefore he cannot send a recone kit at all
UNLESS you either A..send the motor in to him
or B.. take it apart yourself and measure the coil gap SO HE KNOWS what can fit

the 4" coil BL was oly offerd for a little over 1yr and not many sold at all..so they are a fairly rare motor.. hence why he aint done 1..
now if you had a 3" coil BL it wouldnt be a problem to send a drop in

do you understand now?

How am I totally 100% missing the point? Kickinblazer answered the question, if kickinblazer is right, then its a 4 layer 4 inch coil with a standard gap. Im not going to send something in for repair, without having any idea of what it would cost. I'll wait for fix my speaker to answer my questions from here on out. Thx for your your input though.
Fix my speaker, I can call fi audio and ask them exactly how its made. I will try to do that tomorrow, as I have to leave for work soon.

wow didnt mean to start an e fight....but Mr. G6 is right since he has never done a bl with a 4 inch coil it would be best to send it in or give him detailed gap measurments and specify what basket you have and im sure he can make a drop in recone to whatever impedence you want...and once he gets what he needs to acuratly make a recone then you will get a price set in stone...
