How to Replace ECT Sensor and Thermostat 2004 Trailblazer 4.2 - Chevy TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer SS and GMC Envoy Forum

The key thing to remember is that your alt will have to come out due to the thermostat being in the lower radiator hose instead of the upper one. Once you get that lower hose off the thermostat is looking you right in the eye (hopefully not full of dexcool at this point!). There is no easy way that I've found to drain the dexcool so be prepared for a bath in the green stuff!

Good luck!

I wondered why I didn't see you on the Trailvoy lately lol! Yeah, it's a pain in the arse but doable. I replaced my thermostat, idler pulley and serp. belt all in the same episode...probably about a 2 hour job all in all!

Oh damn! 9mpg?!? I get least get 18-21 on a regular....and mine is an EXT...still the 4.2 I6 though. Now with box and batt weight I'm sure there is a substantial difference in mpg but again...the price we pay lol!
