Default GM truck/suv alt wiring question

I posted this in general discussion and got no response, maybe I can get some help here. I'm installing this alt tomorrow so I need some help ASAP.

I just picked up a stinger 240 amp alt from a buddy of mine. it was on his '04 tahoe and I will be putting it on my '05 escalade. it came with instructions and a wire harness but I'm a little confused.

The instructions say to plug the supplied 1 wire harness into the alt and connect the wire to an ignition source, that's simple no problems there. then the instructions go on to say "on 2002 and up you will need to bypass the pcm. we have enclosed a gm26 kit with your order. To install, plug pcm bypass plug into vehicle alternator plug" Ok, that makes since. what is confusing me is the next part, "On '05 remove resister from the grey plug and install in the factory harness." I'm not sure if this means to remove the resister that is soldered into the jumper wire on the bypass plug, discard it, then plug the plug in and your done? (do i solder the wires back together where the resister was?) or does this mean the resister needs to be soldered in somewhere in the factory harness? if so it doesn't say where.

can anybody help me out with this? thanks

it sounds like u have to remove the resistor and soldier the wires back together. i would just clip the wire start the truck and see if it works, and if not take the resistor out and soldier the wires back together and try again.

thanks man, that's what I'm thinking too. I was just hoping for some confirmation from someone who's done it. there's several people on here with HO alts on GM trucks so I know somebody here knows the answer.

Please let me know what you end up having to do. On 05+ they have a Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system which i hate lol. It lowers the alternator charging in my truck while im playing my system. GRRRRR lol.

from what I understand turning on tow/haul mode eliminates that problem, we'll find out i guess. I don't even have a system in my escalade yet, I'm just replacing the alt because the stock one died and a buddy happened to have this stinger one sitting in his garage.

Yes tow mode disables it but also kills your mpg. Cant win

Well I got the alt in and working, but as I kind of expected I have a battery light now. The "dummy" plug that came with the alt was way different then my stock alt plug, so I de-pinned it and stuck the pins in my stock harness so the the risister would be connected in between the 2 stock wires (like it would if the plug had fit) and my battery light still comes on after it's been running for a minute. I'm going to call stinger tomorrow and see if I can get anything figured out.

Oh and the alt is only charging at 14.0 volts, where as my stock alt charged at 14.4ish

i would try taking the resistors out its a cs144 style alt gm large case ? right. the only time u need the resistors. and some one correct me if im wrong is if u actually have to wire the alt as in like a add on or a conversion from a older style gm alts. they put resistors to put resistance on the wire to ignite it but since you are not doing that. your dash light is actually what shows resistance on the wire to ignite the alt to start charging.

The problem is not with exciting the alt, this alt came with it's own wire harness that plugs into any switched ignition source to turn it on. The resister is part of a seperate "dummy" plug that plugs into the stock alternator harness (the stock alt plug doesnt plug into the aftermarket alt) to fool the PCM into thinking the alt is plugged in. In the '05+ gm trucks/SUVs the PCM is supposed to control alternator output.

But the problem I'm having is the "dummy plug" isn't doing what it's supposed to, and my battery light is coming on.
