Default what can the wrong oil truely damage?

I f'd up and put in 5-w20-instead of 5w30.

whats the true harm for another 3000 miles?

absolutly nothing. 5 is the cold weight 20 is the hot weight. its been proven that all oils regardless of weight provide almost the same protection and viscocity. hardly negledgable even in tests

it wont hurt anything lots of people run thinner oil in the summer time and thicker in colder
when i 1st got my g6 gtp.. i bought the wrong weight of oil too.. 5w20 instead of 5w30.. only bc i got to autozone 3 mins before they closed and just grabbed a jug

no its not mixed fresh change just grabbed the wrong oil for the first tie in 8 years of having the car.it alvoline high mileage. i should be good?

In most cars no problem. I've read on some VW forums that there can be early cam wear with the wrong oil type... but in my past vehicles that were already a bit old I used whatever was one sale and never had any issues at all. For a new car I use whatever they suggest.
