Default How hard is it to change out the ignition?

Anybody know how hard it is to replace the ignition in early 90's dodge truck?

I'm thinking about picking up this Ramcharger for cheap as a project, but the guy says he lost the keys and he has a new ignition for it. I'm just wondering how much work it is to change or a ballpark price on getting it done at a shop.

its not hard at all. if you dont want to try you could always get a push button. that would only take a couple minutes to hook up.

Well if it's not to hard I think I could do it. A push button? You mean there would be no key necessary at all? hhmmm.....seems unsafe lol.

we used one on an old farm truck. we lost the keys for it do we broke the ignition and ran the push button under the dash. unless someone is looking for the button it wont do them a bit of good to try and steal the vehicle really.

took me 10 minutes to rip my whole dash out so maybe 30 to redo the ignition?

Sounds like it won't be a big deal then I might just do the push button technique until it comes closer to being a finished project.

the reason we broken the ignition was to unlock the wheel obviously.

if you really want a key you could even go as cheap as an ignition for a riding mower. drill out a spot on the dash and mount it. you would still have to get rid of the column iginition or break it to free the wheel though.
