Exclamation Alt problem

I just changed out the starter in my 97 grand am 2.4 which was an awesome time. Car starts up fine now but now my battery light is on, my front a rear battery is now barley charging over 12v. The day before I changed my starter both sat at 14.4 and 14.5 while on. Is there something I could of hit or somehow shorted a fuse maybe that is causing this.

Thanks

Is it barely charging or not charging at all? If you're reading just over 12v at the battery, then you need a new battery.

Is there any wires you left off? Straight swap for the starter? Possibly your PCM/ECM doesn't like the new starter and isn't functioning because it thinks the starter isn't working.

Both batteries are fine, they sat at 12.8 with the car off before I did this. Now while the car is on both are barley charging over 12

Just went out and checked it this morning, the batteries sit at a higher voltage with the car off then when the car is on??

That's weird, sounds like a parasitic draw somewhere when the car is on. Try unhooking the batteries while the car is running and test the voltage. If the voltage changes then it might be a bad plate in one of the batteries. If it doesn't change, you may have a short somewhere that isn't fused.
