Default checking alternator

any way to check it with a dmm?? not taking it to autobone and let them even touch my shit.

+/- on the alt while running should work right. this is what i get for raping a stock batt and alt for so long.

just check your DCV.

its its below 13 with the motor on your alt is hurtin... most of the time.

to actually test the amperage its putting out
you need a clamp meter that reads DC AMPS
most only read ac amps n volts not dc amps

seen a cheap clamp meter that reads dc amps on ebay for like 55bux

was on delivery and car shuts putters out at 55 MPH get it pulled over and nothing. Just put in a BN yellowtop yesterday. definatly going with the alt.

You need a way to put a load on the elec system and then clamp the + cable for DC amps.

Personally I'd take it to a parts store. It's the easiest.

autozone aint gonna hurt it, all they do is put 2 clamps on the pos and neg, then the clamp, when they tell you to turn on all your lights etc. (to put a load on it) see if theyll let you crank they system to add more load, they cant hurt it

you don't have to put a load on an alternator to test it.

if the voltage is too low with just the voltage of your vehicle there is somethign wrong with it.

if you're trying to find out what your max amperage output is, then you need a load/ clamp meter... but it sounds like your more concerned with if its doing anything at all.

I'm in the same boat man here lately when I have been going to a full stop my car bogs down like it's about to die an the voltage meter drops really low.

I have a singer volt meter I need to put in tho so I can see what my voltage really is cause I don't trust my meter in my car an I have a 250 amp singer alt.

To test if its charging just put the multimeter on volts dc and put it on the battery. Turn the car on and see if the voltage goes from 12+ to 14+. You should hear the alternator kick on with any kind of load.

Not all alts put out 14+

If you're over 13.4ish you're good.
