Default Is anyone familiar with the 2000-2005 Mitsu Eclipse??

Well I bought the GF a 2001 Eclipse GS, its a 2.4 I4 , auto and it runs great, but am going to do some preventative maintenance for piece of mind.. Timing/Balance shaft belts, idlers, water pump etc, and was wondering what else? I hear these are pretty descent motors, and will go a long time if taken care of, but Im just so unfamiliar with it, it sucks trying to find what works, what the good/bad are and what specific parts to get.. Plugs, wires, oil, etc.. My old srt4 was picky as to what it liked, anything bosch was no good, so Im just trying to see if anyone has any pics or info about the car that they could throw my way, thanks

Oh and once the maintenance is done, i will be looking for a nice little audio setup for it, so suggestions are welcome there too

My gf has an 03 GS 2.4 and I HATE that car
Slow, hurts my back, and does not handle curves nearly as well as I thought it would. Changed lanes once at 80 mph and found myself sideways across both lanes, shitting my pants. Did the same thing doing 55 up an on-ramp, by the time I was merging into traffic I was again sideways across both lanes.

Sorry lol as for your question, depending on mileage, the timing belt and water pump are the main things you wanna replace

Use synthetic oil, and as far as plugs go, use whatever they use from the factory.

They really are decent cars that last a while, but the gs seems like it's only good for running errands around town.

Lol @ the bolded quote I cant get comfortable in it, and I dunno how she can either as she is 6' tall.. Nice car, And the only reason she wanted I think, was because, "it was cute" lol Ah well, as long as she likes it

But yea, I just wanted to check to see what everyone likes to use or has good results with..

Seems like these cars can get pretty loud.. Any specific setup for the box? ( sub- back, port-up ) etc?

That would be a good question to run by taylorfade. He's a mad scientist and can point you in the right direction, he knows what orientations work best in hatchbacks.

motor mounts. check to make sure they're not even close to worn and replace if necessary. with that crap plastic dash on them, the slightest worn mount will cause it to crack into a million pieces. also, when installing the new deck, run ALL the RCAs you'll need at one time (even if you don't have the amps for it yet) cause taking off that center console repeatedly will cause the top to not snap in completely. rattles like crazy if that happens, but it looks cool when the top of the console is floating all weird from bass lol

hatch struts are expensive, sunroof likes to come off track if not greased, center speaker is garbage, cupholder position sucks as does rear visibility. take out the rear seats and wall it cause you know it's useless. headlight harness also loves to melt cause mitsubishi sucks at electrical. give it a new ground when you do replace and it'll solve your problem.

old school evo DOHC and manifold/turbo setup fits. piggyback the ECUs to control the emissions. also, 2.0L crank fits, making a 2.2L de-stroker revver of a motor. much better than the sluggish one it has.

haha i was also going to suggest club3g. they have a huge faq section with a lot of how tos and suggestions on things. fivedollapizza pretty much nailed all the main things already. if you dont have the factory infinity setup with the amp under the passenger seat then audio is pretty simple. door panels are fairly easy to remove but rear speakers take a lil more effort.
