Default Car storage

I'm leaving on Wednesday and I have two cars I need to store for atleast half a year. I'm trying to decide on between spending $150 a month for storage garages or putting down rock and getting tarps. Opinions?

Also does anyone have any recommendations beyond Stabil to keep the cars running good?

Put a fuel stabilizer in the tank, Change the oil when you get back home, and that is about all I can think of.

And I would pay for storage to keep most of the animals out of it, and to make sure they are safe.

My dad keeps telling me if he doesn't drive them occasionally they will have more problems. Do they need to have their tires moved and brakes heated?

No, They will be fine unless the tires run low on air. And the best thing to do is to run it completely out of fuel, but since that isn't possible put a treatment in it and run it a little while to let it mix in all the way and get sucked on in to the injectors so none of the lines get gummed up from the fuel sitting in them and turning into gel.

Im sure you will be fine, I let my car sit all winter, long as the battereis on a charger at some point and stabil or another additive is in the fuel.

But it could be longer than winter. I'm in for 5 years and I'll probably only take one car for the first while once I'm allowed a car.

On my first tour to Iraq, my car sat up for a year. This was in 2003 and it was a 93 Pontiac Grand Am. I didn't do anything special to it before I left because I didn't know any better. The only problem I had when I got back was the battery was pretty much shot and had to be replaced and about a week later the heater core went out. I had money and was ready for something new at the time so I got rid of it before replacing the heater core but it was running just fine when I got back. With my second car and my second trip to Iraq, I had my dad fly to Tennessee to pick my car up and bring it back home. He drove it to work once every two weeks and when I got back, it was running fine. What I would do is look in the classifieds section of the newspaper and buy(some people give them away) one of those big dog type of fencing cages for the yard or whatever(it's just a fence) and add tarps to that and have your dad drive it or at least start it every so often. If you need it to be larger, you can go to Home Depot and get more fencing and just space out the corner poles to make it larger. Not to mention, it'll be cheaper than paying for storage for 6 months. Just my opinion though.

My mom has a two stall garage so I wouldn't have to worry about both but my sister doesn't want it
