Default LED's in instrument cluster

Has anybody here changed out the regular/stock small bulbs for the LED ones? I'm thinking about changing mine out in my s10 blazer. It's ok for now when it's dark outside but I know it can be better. And I see some on ebay fairly cheap. The area where it reads P R D OD 1 2 etc is really bad.

Wouldn't get any real cheap LEDs, they will burn out fast

white LEDs can make the OEM color lighter and brighter.
Almost every other color makes it darker.. and they can't change the green hue. (if OEM is green)

to make them actually work, you need to strip all the green coating off the inside of the cluster label sheet. {this means removing all needles to peel the label}

but.. once you have it that far apart, you could: change to glow gauges.. or if you do strip all the green, you could install a multicolor LED strip.

it's pretty badass.. but my spedeometer never worked again and I had to buy a new cluster.

when I had my GTP I had done a full red to blue conversion. Really simple if you can take things apart and not break them. How is your soldering skills?

There is a good thread on the s10 forum about how to do it.

It's cool but the amount of work...
I've done it and a few friends attempted it (one needed a new wiring harness when he burned something out soldering wise), but it's a real nuisance depending on how the area for your lights is spaced.

And get 4500-6000k leds since they look the most natural (unless they're under color then i'd say the mcd matters more than temp). One 5mm with a 30 degree lens will light up your entire interior at night lmao.

superbrightleds.com is my led store and they ship quick and cheap
Look under component leds.

I'd say the colored ones aren't worth the hassle.

No need for soldering. Its one of those bulbs that fit in place twist to lock very simple. Since I've taken it apart/removed several times won't be to difficult to do.

I'll have to check out that thread on s10 forum later since I'm a member there also. Haven't been there for awhile.

Its pretty easy on the 95-97 clusters. I'm not sure about the first gens, but I would imagine it would be the same-ish

Yuppers. It's not bad really. The only thing I gotta be careful with is static electricity. That's the instrument clusters enemy.

That said, I just remembered I replaced mine long ago and came with blue bulbs already inside them. Bought used from ebay of course. Was cool to look at and while it lasted...you guys are right, the multi color bulbs don't last (can anyone tell me why?).

So....I'll settle for the really bright white ones. I can make do with those.
