Default Air Bag Disconnect Rules, Legality, Info, etc..

I have been trying to research this but the answers i get are from one extreme to another.

I have been told not to talk to my insurance company about this so i do not know who to actually talk to, ask, etc to assume the information i get is accurate.

So, hopefully someone on here and tell me or lead me to the answers.

I am curious about disconnecting the Air Bag Compressor on the top passenger side of the car.
IF this thing deploys, it will only cause more harm than good.

I'll leave the driver side connected and steering wheel connected, just passenger side compressor i want off.

I get answers from insurance wont cover me if i get in a wreck.
It's legal to disconnect without worry
I will get fined $2500 if insurance finds out or if police find out
If i unplug the compressor, there is a high chance the air bags WILL deploy

So you see.. i give up on researching this myself.

Well, I don't see how it would be against the policies if a lot of cars come with the ability to disable the passenger airbag. If you disconnect it, just say someone else must've done it and you have no knowledge of it. You might even be able to just make a disconnect relay that you can turn off all the time and if it ever is in a wreck just turn it on.

Ok, this is based on policy rules and I was talking with Progressive about this-

They said to be insured, if your STATE still requires Emission testing every year, then Air Bags must be in full working order during that test.
If your current STATE does not do these tests anymore, then you can be insured even with them fully disabled.

Adjuster information-
I only talked with a property adjuster.
So far, there is nothing in their policy which states your claim would be voided under any circumstance by having any or all of them disconnected.
They are contacting me back in a few days to discuss with personal bodily injury adjusters and manager about this issue.

They have never called me back..

And this was about disabling the passenger side only, not my side.

IT doesn't matter at this point as i know how to do it.. I'll just do it as no one ever rides in my cars anyways.

why do you want to disconnect it? {if no one rides there}

#1 safety/collision airbags are not run by a compressor. [they are electric powered] you can install a switch... but if the bag is not connected, the airbag system knows and will show an error.

#2 some vehicles have a on/off switch for the passenger side airbag. {for children}

#3 airbags are not part of the emissions system.. they are part of the safety system.
(an emissions inspection will not inspect the airbags) [a total vehicle inspection will]
it matters because some states have one inspection but not the other.
also some states like Iowa have no annual inspections {except 'DOT' inspections for commercial vehicles}

Because the wall is so wide, it's pressing against the air bag itself.

In my last wall, the air bags deployed but didnt do anything because there was... a wall there, hehe.

What it ended up doing was warping the outside frame of the car.

I do not need that problem again if air bags were to deploy. It's easier to just not use them rather than to sell the car because they deployed with a wall.

They deployed the last time due to suspension failure. Causing the car to slam onto the ground over a concreted median.
