Default Voltage spike after load.

I recently bought a used HO alt, I installed it and it seems to work properly, holds voltage in 14's mid 13's while driving and bumping. Problem is when I play songs that have spaced out bass notes my voltage will drop to about 13.5 but when recovering I've seen it as high as 16v my info center will pop up with charging system failure. Even have had my amp go into protect twice over this . I haven't been playing my system since this happened as I try to find out what the problem is. I don't want to damage my car or my equipment.

I bought a new smaller belt, and trying to scrounge up some funds for a new belt tensioner to see if that helps, I'm at a loss tho, I can play a test tone and have no issues, just on sharp hard bass notes. That is the only time the voltage goes over 14.8

Any suggestion on what to check will be appreciated,

regulator issue maybe, double check post on back of alt and/or run a ground from the alt casing to the batt
send mechman an email or phone call they always got back to me pretty quick.

Thanks, I do have ground from alt casing to chassis I can try moving it to the battery. My head lights still dim too even with voltage in the 13's. I contacted mechman about two weeks ago and they said I should get a new belt and tensioner so I didn't want to bug them again until I got a hold of a new tensioner. But I guess I can shoot them another email. I'll try moving my alt ground in the morning

you can try this too if you before you buy new parts that you may not need

It dont last very long I just use it to trouble shoot slipping belts. If it helps the issue you probably have a worn belt, pully and/or tensioner.

Does it still spike if you rpm's are a constant 2000 or so?

Yeah seems to only be a issue when I'm driving, at a stop my voltage can get down to 12.3-12.5 but usually doesn't show charging failure. Was thinking my tensioner might give in under load letting belt slip slightly then trying to compensate causing it to charge at higher voltage, idk of that makes any sense or not tho lol. I will get that belt dressing a try tomorrow! I did just send mecham a email, assuming I won't hear back from them til Monday tho. Thanks for your time man!
