Default Ok....I'm stumped

My s10 blazer won't turn over w/o having to jump it 1st. Try to turn the key and voltmeter shows nothing. There's no click click click so guess that's a good sign. However, once I jump it, I let it run for about 10-15 mins in the driveway. thinking maybe the battery needs to be re-charged. Once it's done running for a little bit, I turn it off then turn the key again w/o starting it. And have some voltage. Here's the tricky part: Same day I did this, let it sat for several hours then went out to try and start it again. Nothing.

I turned the alt by hand...sounds good, no squeaks. So guessing the alt is still ok. Perhaps the battery I bought earlier before summertime isn't holding a charge??

Help/ideas/suggestions. (I'll take some voltage tests with my dmm in the afternoon and post up results.)

Sounds like either a bad battery or loose connection somewhere. If the truck will run for 10-15 mins it's almost certain that the alternator is working correctly. Years ago when I drove an Eclipse I had the same problem and it ended up being a slightly loose neg. terminal on the battery. I've also seen issues where the fusible link between the alt and battery was kaput (don't know if you have one or not). Poking around with the DMM should give you the answer.

I just replaced the starter in my bosses truck with the same issue. Only to reinstall the original starter after finding the ground was corroded. Also not for nothing but are you sure the ignition switch is working correctly?

8.06...just minutes ago.

Other day think I got 10.76 or so.

Just did some poking around and see some corrosion on the negbattery cable end to the starter. Gonna take that apart Monday see if that's it. Corrosion bad...= no good won't make good contact.

Checked for connection s as y'all suggested and are right.

Will keep this updated.

Sounds like a dead battery.

This happened in my ram 1500, I pulled up to a gas station, and in the time that I filled up the tank, the battery died completely. Had to get a jump and man I feel bad for the guys alternator that jumped me. I had to grip the cable ends into my posts and his van sounded like it was going to stall out starting my truck. Was all him, my battery was completely shot.

If you are putting the jumper cables on the existing battery terminals and it starts fine, I would say that eliminates the possibility of loose connections and since your voltage is at 8 and 10v, pretty much self explanatory that it's the battery
