So my wife has a 05 cobalt base 2.2L
the other day the car died, she started it right back up.
next day died, started right back up.
took it to the dealer for diagnostic.
they said the icm was bad, which it did go bad 3 years ago, then a year later so 2 years ago. now this would be number 3.
i didnt read the code this time, but its always been a p0300 (random/multiple misfire) I dont know the count or which cylinder but the tech said he saw the issue when he got the car to stall.
he said the icm went bad because 5 years ago she put different plugs in than the gm recomended. and the plugs were sending too much voltage to the icm. for 4 plugs, 4 plug boots, and the icm he said it would be $1500.....
Im not totally sure what plugs are in the car as she is still driving it but is this guy just blowing smoke up my ass or is he on to something with the plugs?
I will replace all plugs (with gm spec ones, the boots, and the icm when the parts come in.)
i read in other topics that the icm is very picky in the cobalts but 3 in 3 years is rediculous!
any help would be very helpfull
