Default help with a schematic

Its this.. SOLID STATE INSTRUMENT REGULATOR CIRCUITS It looks to me as though the .33 + goes to pin 1 and the - goes to pin 2. Pin 2 to ground . Then the .1 cap + to pin 3 and the - to pin 2. Thats what I tried and it doesnt work. Help me out here please.

What version of the 78xx are you using? Vin to pin 1, gnd pin 2, and output pin 3. You don't need caps for testing.

Dunno. Im makin it for a friend. He got the parts off the list on that link I posted. I'm supposed to leave the caps off the thing?

Well what’s the exact part number on the regulator you are using, should be printed on the front. That circuit is super simple and hard to build wrong unless something gets connected backwards, shorted, or you have a bad regulator out of the gate.

plugged it into the dash, one side from ignition the other to the cluster and the ground was to the dash ground

Don't hook up the output side and measure the voltage. What do you see?

What are you using an 8v regulator for?
Be careful what brand
I had issues with turn on current with a 15v regulator
Was well below spec but would trip the current and not turn on
Swapped with a different brand and it worked flawlessly

Nevermind. I had the guy bring the car over and the thing works fine. I think he had it hooked up backwards.

Oh, it was a dash voltage regulator for a datsun 2000
