Default 1997 Lincoln Continental - Pros and Cons???

I am looking at getting a 1997 Lincoln Continental. This is a FWD v8 car. After getting my 93 continental, v6 3.8 FWD with a blown motor, replacing it with another one, i said i am never buying another FWD car agian that i think ill be doing much work to. But i kinda like that 97, and its supposed to run and drive, might have some air suspension problems, i can maybe convert it to coil springs or whatever.

Anyways, not really concnered about that right now. I am just wondering if there are any common problems with these cars? I know the 93 and other continentals had the shitty 3.8 that blew headgaskets all the time, until replaced with better ones. Are there any known engine problems, tranny problems or anything major other than the air suspension? Its supposed to run and drive, has about 130,000 on the car. Im sure there are some problems with it, but its cheap and i dont mind a little fixer upper, everything i get has problems that i fix, like my current car the 93 continental.

I tried to search google for any common problems but couldnt really find anything on it. So any input would be great if you know anything about them. I thought the car was gonna be RWD, saw it was FWD and it kinda turned me away from it, but am still considering it due to price.

The 4.6Ls you just cant kill, the 4.2L in the f150s are junk, the 3.8Ls have bad head gasket problems, the 4.0L tho has always been a good motor if there serviced right, just ive seen alot of guys hook on to heavy boats, or car trailers and take trannys out of there explorers!

agree, 4.0s had a head gasket problem too. the aod trannys had issues with hauling. the 5spd never did. funny you say that about hauling. i tote my 6 ton van around with my explorer, but i have a t5.

My buddy has a 99 (i believe) town car and its seemed fine so far. He doesnt quite take car of his stuff or service it either, dont think hes changed oil since he got it.

I am aware of the 3.8 head gaskets, i replaced mine with a 3.8 out of taurus i bought cheap just for the motor itself, i was told it was rebuilt and new gaskets and all that stuff, hoping it really was and lasts a while on me, so far so good since swapping it in and got prolly 1k miles on it by now.

Are the fwd and rwd motors even remotely the same? They seem like theyre alot different. I noticed the fwd v8 looks similar to the taurus sho motor, which i feel like i remember it being a piece of shit, and hard to find parts for and if you did were wayyyy too expensive.

I believe this has the 4.6l motor but its fwd.

Ya i just googled it and it appears to have the 4.6 motor in it. So its a pretty good motor?

Got any idea on the tranny in these cars? Reliable? Dont want to get a car and the tranny goes out, not looking to replace ANYTHING major on a FWD car. Especially the tranny, i could deal with another motor swap (NOT looking forward to it tho ha) but tranny i dont even have tools to do that let alone can afford another tranny.
