Default Roll/spray on bed liner....who's done it?

Was at Wal Mart yesterday and saw a roll on bed liner kit for about 80 bucks. Now, I've heard I could have a shop do it for about 400 bucks, of course that will be professionally done but really how hard could it be??

This will of course go onto my s10 this summer.

I can "professionally" install your windshield wipers for $60.

Don't be fooled by buzzwords.

I did it myself and used Monstaliner ( Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner outperforms Herculiner Bed Liner, Duplicolor and Rustoleum Road Warrior ). It took a LOT of prep work because the plastidip I had on before was awful to get off, and I also had a lot of peeling clear-coat underneath that I had to sand and the sunroof that I removed and shaved in. For a normal vehicle I'd recommend a light sand to get rid of any surface corrosion, a rinse and wipe down with acetone or another grease removing agent. The actual application was easy

Colors are Black and "Read My Lips" red.

The difference is in the thickness/texture. I sprayed bedliners the last year. The place I did it used what they call a "high pressure, hot spray", which is just a two part spray polyurea. It mixes and dries/cures almost instantly, it basically it's dry as it's hitting the bed. Thickness-wise, it's easy to layer it in as thick as you want, typically they will spray the bottom about 1/4" thick and the sides around 1/8". Each truck uses around 4 gallons or so of material to spray one. The other thing is texture. You can probably put a smoother texture on with the roll in stuff, but the texture of a high pressure setup is usually very consistent and a little rougher. It's also an extremely hard surface, if they scuff the paint right, it should never peel.

Now, if you go to someplace that sprays a low pressure bedliner, it's just a one chemical process that takes longer to cure, it's softer, a little thicker, and less consistent texture. Typically that's someone like Rhino Liners, though they have a high pressure setup they can spray with now too, they many times offer both. We sprayed a low pressure system at my old shop some years back, we used Armorthane.

Hope that answers some questions for you.

Def has some scratches on the bed but no rust that I can see. More than likely sand it nice and flat clean it best I can before applying the bed liner on.

Any preferrable/suggestive type/brand?

SPLEclipse, how much was that monstaliner?

I've used this with good results... It's really chunky and tough... Kinda rubbery and stuff won't slide around.

If doing for dress-up/cosmetic reasons and not actually use your bed..any of the diy kits will work..but what you spend for decent coverage of at least 2 kits..preferable 3...a little bit more money and you will have a much longer lasting that's covered by warranty using Line- X or Rhino...or one of the may out there now..

I ordered 1 black gallon, 1 red gallon, and a bunch of accessories and rollers. I used a coupon for free shipping, and I think the total was a little over $300. There used to be a coupon for a free quart of "chassis saver" liquid to seal and protect any rust spots. I got that too when i ordered but didn't need it. For just a gallon of black with rollers and such would be about $150.

The thing I like about the monstaliner is that there's no "crumbs" in the mix. The texture comes entirely from the application so it can be more smooth or more rough depending on how you apply it. So far it's been about 8 months with absolutely no scratches, peeling, cracking, or fading. For me it's worth the extra over the generic stuff.
