Default Question about my argument.

Well Im 18, but my I obey my father out of respect, The thing is, I enjoy motorcycles and other fun toys, but he isnt really into them. My father and I both LOVE cars but 2 wheels is a place we dont share a love.

I have talked with him a couple times about me buying a motorcycle. He has explained to me that he knows I have the temptation to go fast (as he knows I have done 120 + in his Volvo 850 Turbo). I have explained to him that I understand the dangers, and how I have to look out for myself and think about eveybody else on the road as they dont always see/pay attention to motorcycles. I have also explained, I am careful on bikes because I know the dangers and it seems like he is opening up a little bit.

I want to buy my own bike, a 600cc (I told him I am more then willing to start small as a learner bike). I WILL attend riders safety classes, and have told him that. I found a Suzuki Katana 600cc for 3k. I have researched loans, and it looks like I can get one for around $160 a month. Insurance will run me about $66 a month, and my estimated fuel will be $38 a month. All together this is $264 a month. I would still keep my Suburban but I calculated fuel and insurance to be $293 a month for the truck. Seeings how I work 13 Miles from work, I need something that gets better then 9MPG.

If you didnt want your son to buy a motorcycle would you listen to the evidance I provided and think things over?

my father said i can have any vehicle i wanted. as long as it has 4 wheels. there isnt a week that goes by that i dont hear about a motorcycle accident (last night a guy died on the parkway i think). i wont get one til im out of the house. if i buy one im on my own, if i dont i can stay at home. i want one so bad but dad has the final verdict no matter what. you live in his house. it sucks but sometime you gotta wait.

Dunno what to tell you man, my dad bought me a 250 Harley when I was 10. All I can say is that you're 18, if you wanna buy a bike and don't need him as a co-signer you have nothing stopping you other than respect for your fathers wishes. While noble, there comes a time when you have to live your life for yourself... unless what you're doing causes such emotional distress to your dad that his health suffers. (Long story)

The problem with motorcycles isn't always, seldom is the rider, it's usually the people in cars and trucks who just don't care enough to see you on your two wheeled vehicle.

So everything you can control, won't fix you if something you can't control happens.

Parents are interesting. If they love you and I assume they do, they spent the last 18 years protecting you.

Good luck with it.
btw, it's no fun to ride when the weather isn't nice so you'll still need another insured vehicle.

I say anyone bragging about going 120-150 on public roads shouldn't be on any number of wheels in my damn neighborhood. Responsible enough at 18 for a bike after driving cars 120+? **** no.

You know, I hate to play the bad cop here, but hes got a point, you really shoulve been doing that at a strip, where you have CONTROLLED conditions and paramedics should somehting go wrong. But hey tell me someone who hasnt at some time or another run their cars faster and harder than they shouldve, (I know I did).

But in anycase I would obey my dads wishes, They love you and only are looking out for your safety. I mean hey they got 18 years invested in you, and they dont want to see it get lost. Parental love is a really funny thing, and you really wont know it or understand it till you have one (or more ) of your own.

If it's your passion, as a father I would have to respect that but don't always have to agree with it.

Because 120 one time on an empty interstate makes you a bad driver...
