Default Cobalt engin problems.

OK so my car so completely messing up. Starting yesterday my powersteering is gone. The car is being recalled for that. But now today When i go to crank the car up the car will try to start and the motor will shake up and down and the rpm wont go above 0. Could the two be connected. I can turn the car off and then start it no problem.

I would check your serpentine belt. It control's the majority of the engine vitals. There's a good chance it broke, which would explain the no power steering and some of the other issues.

No GM has a class action suit against them for the steering going out.

If you're tach doesn't move at all when cranking, that is usually a Crankshaft Position Sensor. However, if you can just turn the key off and then start it up that is not normal... I would have the codes checked to start off with. the steering in no way should effect the engine starting/running.

you didn't say the year and I know some Cobalts have the electric power steering pump so that could POSSIBLY be interfering with something but in all honesty, I haven't dealt with the electric power steering much yet so IDK...

well if the car will start but run rough i would say its not the crank sensor cause if it was it would not start at all it would crank and crank no sputter no nothing. But it is curious that the tach stays at 0.

when a battery starts going bad, they can do really weird things to the various electrical components in cars, have the battery load tested at AZ or similar for free, check the battery connections as well
