Hey this is probably a dumb question but does any one know what this part is called (the thing with the rubbed thing on it) its on my 2001 jeep grand cherokee larado it goes to my 4x4 im pretty sure its the front drive shaft but just making sure and i need to replace it but i need to find out what its called before i can get a quote.
Ding, ding, ding! Thats what it is. Go to a junk yard and find one. You can get full shafts for next to nothing. WAY cheaper than buying a new one. Just make sure the donor has the same T-case as your Jeep and you'll be fine.
Hell, if you would have read the caption from JP magazine, where you got that pic from, it says right there:
Another area of drivetrain noise can be the front driveshaft. This is especially true on 4.7L Quadra-Drive models. The front driveshaft's CV joints seem to wear a bit faster than regular U-joints or Double Cardan-equipped shafts. Crown carries replacement parts. Also note the weeping pinion seal. We'll deal with that later if and when we re-gear for larger tires
What year is your Jeep? What t-case do you have? That is going to be important. There is a full time 4wd, part time 4wd, and all wheel drive G.C. You need to make sure you get the right drive shaft for YOUR jeep when you get it.
its a 2001 and it has a second shifter for 2wd 4 part time 4 full time ndown 4 low i think i dont remember the jeep is at my other house in Texas im going to go pick it up but im trying to get the part for it now so i can throw it on when i get there.
