Default Anyone know car ac units?

I filled my trucks ac up, and the compressor kicked on. It seemed to be working for a day, and the next day I try the AC and it must have emptied out again. Anyone have an idea what the high side of repair would be? The high side anyway.

There's a balance between putting in too much or too little. Either one can fvck up your car. It's best to use a gauge when filling and keep it in the green zone. Check your system with a gauge and see where it's at before you add anymore.

Yep. I'm guessing if you had to add refridgerant then it leaked out. It had to have gone somewhere. So you added some & it leaked again. Did you use a manifold with gauges or just one of those cheap filler hoses? I'd highly recommend to use a gauge set. It can be dangerous if you get the high side over 300 psi or over around 60 psi on the low side.

Anyway you should look around all of the fittings & the tubes going to & coming from the condensor to see if you see a bunch of oil has gathered. That's a good indicator that it has leaked there. It's still possible it has other leaks though. If it has been flat for a while you should probably replace the accumulator/ dryer & get it evacuated. If I was doing it you'd be looking at around $300 total if the compressor is good. Much more if it ended up being bad.

I put in ~45psi on the low. Then it was basically empty the next day. Don't know if it will be worth it to fix in all honesty.

I don't like only watching the low side because the high side can sky rocket fast & it can get dangerous. I've seen clutches fly off of compressors, weak lines explode etc. But... 45 psi is kinda low. To get you by you might add a little more & see what it does. I use a thermometer in 1 of the middle vents & if it'll get down to 50 degrees or so at idle I'm satisfied. It'll almost always go down to around 40 driving down the highway which is about optimum.

I'm not adding anymore. It is empty, and it was a waste of money filling it the last time.

I probably will I guess. Will they tell me where the leak is, or whats wrong? I'd probably fix it myself depending on what it is.
