Default remote start, how hard is it?

I was thinking about getting a remote start and keyless entry for my car, and wondering how hard is it to install? what are the main wires to hook up, and if i have any problems, is there anyone on here who could help me and talk me through it a little? Also what are some good budget products?

I was looking at this as well... now, i don't mind messing with wires/stereos/etc, but when I looked through the wiring diagrams on these things, I decided I'm going to leave it to the pros. you have to tap into your ignition, and if you screw it up, you can screw up your ECU, ignition system, etc. and a couple hundred to get it done right seems like a good investment to me... I called around a couple shops, and most places sell DEI products, and install on my car (with ignition by-pass so i don't have to put a key under the dash, 2 way remotes, remote start and alarm) averages around 600-650... The most recent place I called yesterday, they want $655+tax, and they seem to be a pretty nice shop. still need to go over there and talk to them face to face, but they're looking like a better option than anyone else right now...

I'd say take it somewhere, and that is based on talking with 5-10 people that have been installers for awhile that are nowhere near me (in case you think they're pushing their business, or whatever)

You might be able to look at the install manuals online though a pdf file. That would give you an idea of what goes on with an install. I've been wanting to install one on my car, but manual trans > remote starts.

I would never reccomend rs on a manual trans. I refuse to do them personally. RS is hard to do if you havent done them for awile.

this is why i'm taking mine someplace to get it done... when i talked to them yesterday on the phone, this place said they'd use a specific rs for a manual, and everything they said was everything i was looking for... after about 6 months of searching, I finally found a shop that seems to know what's up...

$650 is really high but i guess it depends on the market. They are doing Vipers installed for $299 and $399 depending on if you want the one with the nice keychain remote with display or not.

I know I'd have to get my parking brake fixed first. It drives me nuts not having one. I'm sure by now they have come out with a remote start kit for MT's. It'd be interesting to see how they do it. I have to have my clutch all the way to the floor to get if to turn over.

$650 may be high, but i'd rather it be done right and pay a little more, than take it to some crap shop and have my car blow up...

as for the process of the start-up with the manual, you have to "pre-set" the alarm before you leave the car... there's some kind of little "combination" of events that you have to do to basically tell the alarm the car is ready for it to start it... i just hope this isn't something ridiculous like "run through the gears, get out and run around the car twice, honk the horn 3 times, flash your lights 8 times, and then turn the car off and set the alarm." I'll let everyone know how mine goes once I get my tax return back...

yea, there is a shop about an hour from me, and they will do a pilot remote start, and keyless entry for $175 installed, but this is the basic remote (3 buttons, no screen etc.)
