Default think i blew my head gasket!

i drive a 92 pontiac sunbird and on the way to work after i got off the highway and a red light i notice a bunch of white smoke coming out of the tail pipe and a rough idle!

Depending on what happened to the head I'd rather not. A head gasket is pretty cheap and that's usually what steam means.

But if the gasket blew, and he kept driving, then I'd rather have a blown hu... It all depends on how soon after the gasket blew the car was shut off, and how much (if any) oil was lost...

White smoke is steam. The most likely scenario is that the gasket blew at the water passage near a cylinder and water is getting into the cylinder. Blue smoke means burning oil. Now, he might have some water in his oil but that's not a huge deal unless it's enough to displace all the oil in the pan to the point that the pickup won't pick it up.

i was in the ghetto so i drove it the rest of the way to the shop which was a few miles. should be fine. may drive it to a buddies house a few more miles. not sure though!

Gaskets are cheap. Hope it's that and not a head. Have any problems with the motor getting hot lately?

Check your oil. Look for water droplets on the dipstick and an abnormally high level.
