1000 watts for the older ones, 1500 supposedly for the AE.

I'd just go with the 1000/1 because of the ohm config on the 13.5

also, subs don't "put out" power, they "handle" it.

My buddy ran 4 of them with a circa 2006 MTX 1501D on each one and it was pretty mean in a Ford Expedition

I remember when Pete (PWK) had his truck and ran a Colossus each on two. It was nice!

only differance between the AE and the regular 13w7 is cosmetics. I have a 13w7AE and a Jl 1000/1 and i know that i can run the 13w7AE on my Jl 1000/1 freeair full power with no ill effects (testing purposes only). in a ported box built to spec will take around 1500rms, sealed will take a little more

Just look at the 13w7 manual - I think it says the power handling range is 500-1500 rms & anything over 1500 rms voids the warranty. But the overall consensus is 1000 rms only because that amount of power was the largest size amp jl produced before the hd1200/1. Obviously jl knew what they were doing with that d1.5 voice coil configuration (good luck trying to find an amp that puts out that specific power at 0.5 or 3 ohm other than a slash series amp at the time of the w7's initial release), but nowadays with all these underrated amps its pretty easy to find something to give the 13w7 sufficient power at 0.5 or 3 ohms. I had 1 and then 2 13w7's on a fosgate t20001bd and it pounded, so really whatever sounds good to you will be enough.

I had a customer with 4 hd750s on 2 13w7s ported in a tahoe. clamped a bit over 2k each , he ran it as a street beater for 2 years, never had one fail.

Ran mine with 1 JL 1000/1 on each coil for a while.

Upgraded to an Orion 2500D @ 0.75 ohm (Dual 1.5 in series is 0.75 not 0.5)

You can run them on any 1 ohm stable amp if you are careful. The 12's are the ones the ohm load limit your amp selection a lot!!

That sub was not made to take a beating or for spl. It has the rating for a reason, the sub is to get loud but sound great on the recommended rms range. I doubt that thing can take more than 1900rms in a daily app
