Default should i re build my 12w3s

well back in 04 i bought a pair of 12w3d4 and i pushed them for years at 1 ohm with a 1000 watt class d Memphis amp which i cant find anywhere online anymore i still have this to lol... anyway the subs still work but have became worn out i think? they just cant take the power anymore i can make them pop now pretty easy as it used to be much harder. with my new learnings hear i realized that for years i pushed that amp with no big 3 thus more then likely being the causing of a constant clipping problem i would have trying to reach full tilt.. i have also learned that this clipping problem could have also messed up a vc or 2 which may be the case so im gonna pick up a volt meter and check them out later...

now my real question is.... should i rebuild the subs? if so what can i do to make them better if anything?

yes they can be rebuilt... but for the price u prly would be better off buying new subs... also pick up a DMM and check out the coils.not sure what the POPPING noise is you hearing... maybe bottoming them out with to much power?

best way to make them better

replace the motors twith some ab xfl motors
replace the baskets with a sweet tc sounds basket
replace the coil with a nice 8 layer 3 inch coil
replace the cone to a 12 inch hd cone
replace the spiders with 3 medium 8 inch spiders
replace the leads with some dual sewn in lead
use the same dustcap

there u go

yea the popping is to much power but they used to take it so much better lol

what is it about these subs that make them harder or less worthy of the re-cone? im just board and would love to have a project and i have these to learn on... would it really be that expensive to not be worth it?

Actually, the 12w7 can be reconed by psi since it has a 3" coil, but only the 12 out of the w7 series has the 3" coil.

lol

i guess i should have been more specific... im not looking to build a max effort spl monster.. just rebuild my w3s back to stock with possible minor upgrades... mostly for the learning purpose, maybe after a few successful small builds then perhaps i will try something more challenging? im just board and need a project
