There's no hard and fast rule. Although, I like ~ 25sq in per cube give or take depending on the application.

What is this vas and qes you speak of? This is why people are so scared to try bandpasses. All of this hokey pokey mumbo jumbo that seemingly only 4 people in the world know how to interpret and use. It ain't flippin rocket science. It's a damn speaker box.

That ain't how I roll. I jab it in a box inside of a box and make a big fat port and let 'er eat.

Make it big see what it does and start shrinking it until you find where's loudest

Just one more little note about it since you gave me a little giggle there at the end...

Last year I wanted a 4th for a 12. I got a "guru" to design me one, I used WinISD for one and then I straight up guessed at one. I built all three. Guess which one was loudest and had the best FR?

Non wall= less port if not a lot of power
Wall setup= more port depending on how much power as well.

Could range anywhere from 12-25 sq in per cube depending on the application. For low end extension, more port is better in most cases.
