Default another Ford PCM controlled question...

I want to add another Mechman 270 to my current setup, and have some questions about what the best way to go about this is.

So, I currently have 2 D3100s jammed under my hood and a Mechman 270. I want to add another 270 alt with external regulator. Now, im assuming if I tie that into the existing system the pcm will see the high charging voltage and try to back off the one alt it can control, pretty much rendering that useless...So would I be better off making two seperate systems? Say maybe throw a small batt in there somewhere just to run the truck and the big alts and the 2 d3100s for just my amp?

Trying to figure out something to give my amp some more juice. I dont really want to add any more batteries than I have to and I would like to have control over my charging voltage. Even with the 2 D3100s and the 270 im dropping down into low 11s and even the 10s every now and then.

oh and forgot to add I dont want to have a CEL or anything else so just bypassing the pcm isnt really an option...unless of course, I can find a way to do it without throwing any codes or cel's

You will need one battery and an alternator connected to the PCM side of things to run the truck. I would run the HU, mids and highs off that setup. One good AGM and a good alternator will keep up with that.

From there I would connect your batteries for the subs to the second unit as a completely independent system from your factory charging. Use these batteries to power your subs. It will also be totally independent of your OEM electrical so you won't have any issues with CEL illumination.

thats good question and i am contimplating the same problem. my thought was have the pcm control both so your actually using the 540a of alt power you have. i would think the 540a of alt power would way out perform the higher charge voltage of only 1.

It won't work properly wired together and that will still cause the PCM to limit your voltage.

The way I suggested is the best way to insure proper performance of the vehicle with a secondary alternator installed.

Sent you an email Eric.

How much research have you put into the PCM controlled fords? Im wondering exactly what controls the alternator. Is it a single wire going to the regulator that controls it? Seems like an inline potentiometer could be some sort of adjustable voltage, although the feedback the PCM sees could be a problem. Im wondering even if there was some way to like "piggyback" it and fool the pcm into seeing what it needs to see somehow. Im definitely interested in figuring something out like that too, even if I dont do anything with it Id at least like to learn how it works. Seems I cant find any model specific info on the web to how ford does theirs.
