Default Memphis 16-st3004 in protect mode

Ok so yesterday my brother suggested I try his 6x9's in the back of my 4runner since I currently have no rear stage. So I decided to give them a try and wired them up to my Memphis 16-st3004 that had two free channels. After hooking them up I turned everything on and wasnt getting any output from them, after a little process of elimination I concluded that they must not be connected in their boxes. So I disconnected them and turned everything back on and after jamming for about a minute the amp went into protect. So I tried turning the car off and back on, checking the fuses, disconnecting the load from the amp, and disconnecting all power to the amp and reconnecting it all with no success. On the amp the red protect light stays lit and the green power light blinks. The only thing I think could have caused it was the wires must have been unhooked and touching inside the 6x9 boxes But its weird that it played after disconnecting them. I hooked up my back up amp in its place and everything works fine. Anyone have any input or suggestions?

Bummer. Any idea what a repair would cost if that was the problem?
