Default Hdc3 18

I picked up a blown hdc3 18 a little while ago for 30 bucks. Got it for the motor.
Im unsure of what to do next... Well more which way to go. Recone the 18 or change the sub to a different size.
My hu is a kdc-x889, Amp is an AQ 1200d and am running knuknocpetz 0 guage.
I have an 03 extended cab S10.
This is just gonna be a daily system and once in a while might do a competition.
The problem with the 18 is the spider popped out, Busted a coil lead when the spider popped. I dont know if anything else is wrong.
Is it fixable just how it is? I know no one will know for sure unless they actually see it. I had got it with the plan of having AQ do the rebuild turning it into a 12.
Im not sure now tho. I may do the 18 or a 15.
Im lookin for some more info and recomendations.
Im really enjoyin this site and want to say thank you before hand for any info and responses!
Josh

I have also had the idea of doing the rebuild myself. But need to find the products to do that. My buddie has a blown 10" type r that would kinda be a guinea pig! You know something to learn on instead of possibly messing my hdc3 up!
He hasnt ever done a recone either. I have heard its not very hard to do, im just a little nervous about it lol!

well if you recone to a smaller size then you have to spend more money on changing basket. so you could just gut the soft parts out of it and clean the spider landing and trim ring and order a recone kit for it.

Wouldnt an 18 be too much? Would it sound good in the truck since its so small in there.

look at it this way.keeping it an 18 you save money reconing it(don't gotta get basket), and you won't have to upgrade from a 15, or 12 in the future if wanted. And if it ends up being "too much" for you then just turn the gain down

Does anyone know how much the recone for the HDC3 18 is? Also how do i post pics on here. I would like to get your take on the sub and what happened and if it might be just from looking at a pic fixable just how it is now. All that it looks like i wrong is the spider popped out of its seat and a coil lead broke.

I think if you have a extend cab you should keep it as a 18 and make a proper ported box as for the recone I would do d1coils to get the most out of your amp with box rise and good electrical amp should put out decent power. For the single sub as all of us over power these subs and get results good luck
