Default 2 alts and small batteries or 1 alt and big batteries?

Right now I have a 140amp alt in my car and can get another 140amp alt for ~$70. Would I be better off with dual alts and a few small batteries or just 1 alt and two group 31 batteries?

I'd prefer to go the cheaper route with the extra alt and a couple of batcap 2000 batteries instead of spending alot more money on the bigger batteries and alot more weight. The plan is to have about 2500-3000 watts

Let me know what you guys think

You have to have more alternator output if you expect to get that many watts for a sustained period of time. 2 alts.

i went with a 200a alt and a batcap2000 under the hood and 2 batcap4000 in the rear for my 4k amp and at idle my voltage drops to 12.6 at full tilt but when revved the voltage stays in the 14v and dips into the 13s. so either route is acceptable i would think.

My cars computer doesn't let the voltage drop below 14.1v while at cruising speeds. I just want to know what would be better at idle and for demoing.

two 140amp alts and two batcap 2000s or one 140amp alt and two group 31 batts?

Proof about the computer thing. oem honda battery, 70amp alt, and at this voltage and this song, I peaked at 140.1 sealed on the dash.

It's a emissions thing with this generation Honda Accord. There's no way to bypass it either so I couldn't even run an external regulator or anything like that. When the car is under heavy load, it drops the voltage to mid 12's to save on gas. So as I accelerate, the voltage is in the 12's and once I'm cruising, it jumps back up to low-mid 14's

Well your alt isn't there to provide power to your amp/s...it's there to recharge batteries. Personally I'd say get a bigger alt and more batteries as the bigger alt will be able to charge multiple batteries quicker but with 2 alts and one small battery you'll only be keeping one battery charged and all the pull will be coming from that one battery.

Something along the lines of a ~200 amp alt would be good for your application as with such a small alternator from the factory that tells me your car doesn't need much from it so you'd be sending maybe ~100 amps to the batteries. Just my $.02....

The factory alt is only 70amps. The alt I have in there now is double the size. Like I said, I'd prefer 2 alts and 2-3 smaller batteries just to save on weight and space in the trunk. 2 group 31 batteries in the trunk of a honda sucks

I hear ya on the weight and space but an alt isn't going to directly provide power to your amp so you'll need the batteries regardless. Depending on the size of your amp you could go with group 34's to save a little space. If you already have a larger alt installed then I'd just focus on batteries. Even at smaller batteries if you have enough of them it will still help. You could even go with something like multiple D1200's from XS to save on space and weight...they're good for 1500 as primary and 3000w for secondary battery and weight like 33 lbs vs. the 70 lbs of a group 31!

Do to have any idea how your going to make a second alt fit? If It was me I would get a 200+ amp alt bypass whatever makes the alt stop charging and 2 batts.
