Default 300zx electrical problem

ok my brother had a problem with his 300zx. he recently installed a old school re xxx 15 in it and running it at 1200w. he has a stock alt and a redtop battery. he was driving on interstate 75 and his car started to die on him. and would give it gas and it would keep jerking and still pushed but he had to get it towed back home. he has a brand new redtop so it cant be the bat. i told him its the alt and he think so too. but the thing is he needs a alt that can handle the amperage from the amp. he doesant have alot of money to spend for a dc,mechman and big names like that. i was just wondering he anyone could give me a good reliable brand alt i can tell him to look into.

I've seen some positive reviews about Powerbastard alts. Also check into local rebuilds... I can't imagine he'll need very much alt for 1200 watts.

Guessing will cost you a lot of money in the longrun. Take that alt out and have it tested first.

If it's the alt than the battery light should come on. If I were him check stock alt if it's bad get a new one it doesn't have to be a h/o alt just stock and do big 3... I believe the way to test to see if the alt is bad than while the car is running disconnect the negative on the battery and if the car dies than alt is bad. I think that's how atleast or you could pull it and have it tested.

I run db electric alt. As far as gm products go best bang for the buck. 250 amps are under 300 shipped. Not sure if they make them for Nissan. You'll have to check into that

start the car and check voltage with a dmm...... if you have yet to try this your waseting your time , a red top should be in the 13,5 rage while off(i could be wrong) running you should be at or over 14v , 300zx's are picky *****es anything could cause it to work poorly, what year is it?
