Default 15" DC XL m2 -or- 18" Crossfire XS V.2

I just bought an 18" Crossfire XS V.2 that I'm building a box for that will be Slot Vented & tuned to 30hz with 60sq in of port & 12sq in port/per ft^3. The total air volume gross is 6.51ft^3, and after all displacements subtracted, it's 5.05ft^3 net.

I wanted to know what you thought about the final net Air Vol, tuning frequency , the sq in of port per foot, and total sq in of port. This sub would be ran off a DD M3a @1ohm with stout electrical. I can't go any bigger that 6.51ft^3 gross due to size limitations.

Now here's the the tough decision I just bought a 15" DC XL m2 that has a sexy Carbon/Kevlar dust cap like the Z's. Its 2200wrms compared to the Crossfire XS V.2's 2000wrms. I know both can take a lot more power but I don't know or have heard much about the XL's with the new m2 motor . If this sub is ran off a DD M3a @1ohm, how many watts do you think I can send to it and still be clean power and how much clean can the XL take.

I'm needing to decide what route/what sub box should I build first. So I figured I'd ask you guys to see what sub and amp would be the most appealing. 18" Crossfire XS V.2 in 6.5ft^3 box slot tuned to 30hz on a DD M3a @1ohm or a 15" DC XL m2 in 3.5-4.0ft^3 box slot tuned between 33hz-35hz.

Biggest problem is I need some sort of an approach to tune low and big 4ft^3 @32hz or DC's recommendations of 3.5ft^3 @35hz . But with either one I would need to know how many sq in of port and sq in port per foot for both sizes.

Whichever box and sub you choose, I'll slap that bad boy in first

Thanks

I've seen those crossfire's take three times there rated RMS and getting demo'd the f out of all day without any issues besides surround failure. I'm a DC nut hugger but the crossfire is the better sub IMO.

I'm not sure 5cf net is enough for that 18...I could be wrong but it seems small.

Smaller sub in proper box>larger sub wrong box

Well it grosses almost 7cubic feet but after trying to do 12sq in port per foot and tune to 30hz..it took up a shit load of the boxs internal volume lol lol

But I think 5.5cu ft net volume is damn close ..I see 18s put in small ass 2 cubes

Run one for a while, then run the other for a while. Find out which one YOU like the best.

I have quite a bit of experience with both drivers, both are good subs! But for power handling the XS has the advantage with a 4" coil.

Now I do know the XLs dont like to much power daily, anything really over 3.5k and your pushing it.

It does seem small but I don't think that'll be a problem because I once had 2 15's in a 4.8ft^3 box so each sub was 2.2ft^3 each and that was before displacements.lol it banged hard as shit but then when I made a 4.2cube box for 1 15" it hit damn near just as hard but 100x lower lol

I reworked some dimensions and internal volumes and what I came up with was 7.05ft^3 gross tuned to 31hz with 11.6sq in port per foot and a total port area of 60sq in. After the driver, port, triple baffled front I ended up getting 5.56ft^3 NET and still managed almost 12sq in of port per foot so well find out how it sounds lol

Oh no no you don't have to worry about that lol. I don't see how you guys put 5000watts daily to a 2000watt XS V.2 lol id be terrified lol I plan on putting no more than 2500 to the XL and no more than 4k for the Crossfire lol

Op have you thought about using aero's? Save internal space, probably closer to 6cf net for the xs

If your stuck with slot port and can't go bigger than 5.5 net for the xs then you are probably better off running the dc in the proper box.
