Default Electrical problem

So hot my voltmeter ran to my amp. Setup is 2 3500ds, 3d1600s, and 2 300 amp16v alts. At idle in park the voltage will jump from 18.5 to 19.5 and anywhere between. In drive sitting still it dips to 18v, volume at 0 on radio. Driving it will level out around 18.9 and stay steady no matter what. Could it be the regulator?

It is adjustable and external. The blue finned one. It says 12v no the regulator but it can be used for 16v I suppose, thats what they sent. I've ran this getup before with no issues, but with the new install its acting up

my need just readjusted, you need to check voltage out at your alt with a good multimeter like a fluke, and like I said some voltmeters are adjustable and need set with a multimeter

Also they are dual alts, at the alt they jump around too. Of course I can't check it while driving

It may be the regulator or you may have a bad diode causing inconsistant voltage. Have you tried disconnecting one alt and see if its isolated?

my dual alts with the transpo regulator was doing the same thing and i found it to be that the ground and positive from the regulator both need to go strait to the back of the alt not one of the batteries also have seen wire size cause this same problem before on these.

See mine is ran to 12v. Only field wire is on the alt. So your saying field and positive go straight to alt. And ground to alt case ? So not to the batts in the back?

Yes the regulator needs to see the same voltage. I ran straight off the alt to a relay that was switched 12v.
