Default Voltage Drop at idle

Just installed a 220amp h/o altenator on my 89 chevy blazer (fullsize) and at idle my voltage drop to nearly 9.5 volts and thats with no strain on the altenator but when im driving and i have my music on everything works fine does anyone have any ideas on why my voltage drops like that at idle (and this is happening without the music being on )

Does it drop from like 14 volts down to 9 then back up...or is it like a constant 9/10 volts at idle?

Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast. Big alts can't make power below 1200rpms (or so). You could get an underdrive pulley to spin it faster, but that'll theoretically shorten the life of the alt.

I suggest you just keep the revs up a bit if you're wangin' at idle.

Wrong.

That maybe a solution if he was wangin' at idle but he said he is not.

What is the resting voltage of your battery(s)? Is the alt new? Who makes it? Give us more details about your electrical setup.

I would assume that means hes not wangin at idle. Could be wrong.

Lol. My bad. Damn.

What's your idle rpms? Do you already have an oversized pulley? Is this internally or externally regulated?

My CRX makes like, nothing at idle. The car is literally running off of batt power alone below 1000 rpm.

Also, what alt is this?

No extra pulleys just a direct swap heres the link to where i got my alt

DB Electrical - ALTERNATOR HIGH OUTPUT 220 Amp 5.7L GMC TRUCK 89 90 91 92 SUBURBAN

At idle my voltage slowly creeps down until it gets to about 10v or 9.5v and thats with no music

Did you get a smaller serpentine belt when you got the new alternator? Also, what is your rpm idle speed?
