Default Dodge Durango Enclosure Positioning *Help*

I have heard alot of people say subs up, port back in most SUV's (different spots online).

I dont trust all I read online though, so I am looking for people who have actually tried different positioning and configurations in an actual Durango.

I have heard subs down in a Durango, but I believe that was a sealed enclosure, mine will definitely be ported.

The equipment will be three Earthquake Magma 12's (old ones) running off an Earthquake 200DHC Mark2 (1800rms @ 2ohm) in a 1998 Dodge Durango.

Enclosure will likely be around 36 x 36 x 18 total details have not been worked out (8cuft @ 40hz after displ.).

I'd do port back if you have a good amount of space between the box and the hatch.

The farther the wave has to travel the more mature it gets, Read it on here somewhere, Makes sense.

Most people that do port up in a suv/hatch have very little to no room from the box to the hatch. This will also sufficate the port if it doesn't have enough room infront of it.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

David, that is completely untrue. in fact, the further a wave travels the quieter it gets. in vehicles, placement affects reflection/resonances for the most part.

Then why in a trunk car for instance is it better for the subs and port to face towards the trunk and not inside the cab? I've always had better results faceing them back.

Generically, for a few reasons. Main of which is basically corner loadijg the enclosure. The trunk acts like an extension of the box. im on a sucky phone and this is a sucky analogy but normally bigger box = more bass (kindof..)

its like yelling out into a hallway or yelling into an open room. hallway allows for reflection. i tried to go a quick google but dont have any good papers on hand for this.

Well you have seen why I kind of wanted a Durango owner or someone with a good amount of experience with them.

My S10 Blazer sounds better with a small db boost (to the ear) while facing up.

A newer S10 may be different due to hatch angle, space between seat and hatch, interior materials, side glass shape and size etc.

As for port restriction due to vehicle panels or other objects, I try to give 5" minimum, but this also depends on port velocity and diameter. A bare minimum should be the diameter of the port = the distance from any objects or panels.
