My opinion, if you're even thinking of upgrading power anywhere in the future and you're planning on keeping your car for when that time comes, save up and get a singer, dc, mechman alt. Speaking from personal experience, i've spent ~400 bucks on alts, hoping one would work better than my stock. Gave in and got a singer alternator. Best upgrade to my system. When burping even 3k on my system, went from dropping to ~11.5 to not even budging.

The bad things about the alts you listed, they don't list the idle amps. Which is a biggie. I bought a "200" amp alt, clamped just under 90 amps idle. Just ten amps above my stock, totally not worth 200 bucks if you get my drift.

was gonna suggest dcpower or mechman, but if you can't afford a Singer then nevermind

Save up and get one from the companies the other guy or I listed. They're worth it

hey dcollister, im in the same boat as you.

i got a quote from a big company in Portland, Oregon for $599!

this merchant selling this:

Alternator Solara Lexus High AMP ES300 95 1996 1997 1998 1999 2001 02 03 04 3.0L | eBay 160a alt here for $160

is eagleelectric - I sent them an email about a different sale they had going, but no reply yet. I wanted to know the amps at idle. But, that merchant does have a good feedback rating....

local guy told me to avoid high output alternators cause it's super tight under my hood and HO alts will get super hot and might not even produce anything much over my stock alt at idle.

i've got an email request in at singer, we'll see what he says.... let me know what you decide to do....

Mike over at singer is pretty fast to get back to me:

The upgraded unit that I offer for your vehicle is a 240A. This alternator is a direct bolt on design for your vehicle and would be plug and play (the factory plug would go into it like the OEM unit) This alternator includes my overdrive pulley to boost the idle output (this will spin the alternator faster at low RPMS to boost idle output by around 30 to 40A more.) The total price on this unit shipped w/ my lifetime warranty on labor is 439.

hmmmm ... 439 shipped....
