Default HELP! Remote turn on dead.

I have an older Sony xav-60 and I have a clarion eq hooked to it. Problem is, my headunit wont kick on thru the remote output. I thought it was the clarion so I switched it with a kicker xover and still nothing. I've tried connecting it to the amp remote out, antenna remote out and 12v out/in and it wont kick a signal. Now if I jump the positive and remote wire on the eq, I get power... but wont turn off... This is a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo,.

I also tried jumping it to the constant 12v wire but it wouldnt turn on the eq but WOULD turn on the HU from the same point of contact?

"my headunit wont kick on thru the remote output."

It sounds like you're trying to turn on the headunit by powering it with the remote out of the Clarion. That can't be right.

You don't hav eto use the remote wire to power anything you are talking about. That is used solely to provied a very, very small amount of current to a sensor to turn on an amp

For both the Clarion and the Sony the red wires (on both) should be tied to a switched 12v+ source (in your car, the yellow wire)*, and the yellow wire on the Clarion and Sony should be connected to a constant (always on) 12v+ wire. On your car that is the orange wire.

*I used this site for wire color codes. I can't be 100% positive that they are correct, so double check with a DMM just to be sure.

What I was saying is the remote turn on via the HU will not turn on the clarion. just the remote sensor. I tried the different wires on the wiring harness, the red wire would turn on the HU but not the clarion... at the same contact point, I could not understand that at all. But when I jumped the clarions remote and positive together, the clarion would turn on. The HU turns on no problem thru the wiring harness wires, but not the clarion.

I get what you saying, I guess I'll install a relay?

why not just give the clarion the switched ignition for it's "remote turn on" ?

does your amp turn on using the remote turn on?

I haven't had anything hooked up yet, I was going to install the delayed trigger input to turn on the amps in the rear.

See I'm glad you posted the wiring diagram. I'll try that in the morning before I go buy a relay, The colors on the diagram and the ones coming off the HU are saying slightly different things. I didnt try the yellow wire yet.

If you're just having problems getting the Clarion to turn on, you can do like Sonic said and power it only with the switched 12v+ source (the red wire on the Sony or the yellow wire in the car). This is assuming it's a passive component, and doesn't have any digital storage or memory.

I tried it tied to the red wire, it didnt turn on. Thats the crazy thing, I cut the wire between the HU and the harness, tied it to the wire coming from the clarion and got nothing... soon as i touched the wire back to the HU, it pops on. I tried tying all three together, HU comes on but not the clarion

Hmmm...I don't know man. If you have it out right now try hooking it up directly to the battery (yellow and red wires on the back of the Clarion to +, black wire to -). If it turns on you know there's a problem in the wiring in the dash. If it doesn't then you know it's dead. You didn't blow any fuses did you?
