Default best free music editing software?

I used to have fruity loops, until my computer crashed, and the guy that I got it from lives about 20 hours away. All I want is to be able to add bass to songs.

Not just increase the current bass in the songs, but add actual notes. Like adding a 40hz note that is 2 beats long, recurring every two beats for 8 consecutive notes, followed by two 34 hz notes.

I tried using audacity today, but can't find a way to do this in audacity.

Any help on a way to do this in audacity, or a way to do it with another program is greatly appreciated.

He isn't exactly the most friendly person to "new" guys. From what I have seen.

I would agree with you though that he knows what he is doing, I have all of his Zips.

Where in Wisconsin are you at? I have Fruity Loops 9.0 and Sony Sound Forge 9. I torrented it.

Sound Forge actually have built-in parametric EQ so it's perfect for adding bass to stuff. I use it for a lot of things.

PM me if you're interested.

Kenosha. I might just end up torrenting, but I'm trying to stay on the legal side as long as possible.

Well this is what I did before... I used Winamp's built-in EQ or you can download third-party DSP (I used DEE bass processing, not sure if that exist anymore), play the song with the EQ/DSP enabled then use another program such as VLC media player (or maybe you can record in winamp while play, not sure... haven't used winamp for a long time) to record the EQed song.

you should be able to find fruity loops via torrents, which is exactly what you need to create a beat

in audacity, you need to highlight the exact duration of the note you want added(sine wave) go to new audio track, generate and choose the frequency and amplitude (i'd start with .5 and mess around until it wont clip from adding)
once you are doing aligning levels via EQ/Gain/Amplify then go to mix & render

Synth bass on FL9 is not hard to do at all, if you know pianos that program is a breeze
