Default Car Audio Rules of Thumb?

So every once and awhile i see someone throw out a little known fact in the car audio world that the new guys don't know, Little tricks of the trade, do's and dont's. This thread will be for everyone to give their little secrets and just unwritten rules. I'm sure i can learn a lot from this also. Whether its true or not, all that matters is that it has helped you, because it could help someone else too. Let's keep the finger pointing and mean comments in another thread please.

I'll start:

Your port should never be less than 4-6" away from any walls or objects.

Picking Driver & Crossover Points:

When crossing tweeters (low end response), the general rule of thumb is twice the F's (resonant frequency) at 12db.

you can get a general idea of what kind of power your amp should be putting out
by the fuse rating

multiply the fuse amps X 10

i.e. : 40 amp fuse x 10 = 400 rms, (ballpark figure, in a perfect world)

Maximum of 1:9 port height:width ratio. For example, don't do a port 2" tall and 28" wide.

I have tested that amp about a bazillion times. I know what it does clean, clipped, dirty, loaded, unloaded, wired down, low voltage, good voltage, after it hot, while it's cool, on caps, on batts, where it protects, what's thermal limits are and just about anything else anyone would care to know about it.

But thanks for chiming in. Your opinion is duly noted.
