Default plastic board speaker box?

i am currently working on a deal for some 1inch thick plastic boards. these boards are big enough to build a box even bigger than my current 10.26cuft box that is in my suburban. assuming that i get all of the mating surfaces to seal properly would 1inch thick plastic be better/same/ or worse than using birch or mfd?

Without knowing the exact type of plastic these boards are made of, or seeing them in person, we can't really give you a for sure answer. There are thousands of different plastics out there, and some of them may be better than birch/mdf and some may be worse. If the plastic is very rigid, like plexiglass, then I'm sure it will be fine. If you find out the type of plastic it is, I might be able to tell you a bit more.

i know a 4x8 sheet of mdf is no joke, weight wise, try cutting a whole sheet by yourself on a table saw,

its tough,
i wonder what the 1" plastic sheet weighs ?

it depends on the plastic.

1" thick UHMW is less rigid than 1" thick plexiglass
AND
1" thick plexiglass is less rigid than 1" thick urethane

[UHMW = ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene]

This website is awesome for figuring stuff like this out: Online Materials Information Resource - MatWeb

For example: If this plastic sheet is the average acrylic (plexiglass), and given the density for acrylic from that site, then a 4'x8'x1" sheet would weigh around 190 lbs.

This site is really useful for comparing materials! The only thing it is lacking in are the specs for wood. But that is to be expected because wood isn't very consistent.

we use polycarbonte at work , for a certain project.

an i believe my boss told me that 1/4 x 4'x8' is $500, each

so we always keep that in mind when we **** one up

i meant 1/4. we use 3/16 for trimming

If it's the same kind of plastic that they use to make credit cards & driver's licenses then it should work.

not sure exactly what type of plastic it is but it was used as wall armor in some old guard shacks. its claimed to be able to withstand a 12gauge slug at 15ft.
it seems to be very stiff but then again its an inch thick. its very heavy. the sheets that i can get are 4x6 and weigh alot more than a sheet of 4x8 mdf.

Sounds like star board, which I have used in marine applications
it makes a good sub box but you have to use 3M 5200 caulk/adhesive, regular caulk or silicone wont adhere to it for very long.
