Default Tinsel lead question and why tinsel?

I'm building a pair of 18's and got to thinking back to the first pair i built years ago that I fried the tinsel leads in half on with an AP3K, so i want to avoid that happening again to an even more expensive build. If I was going to use the AP3K on a pair of 18's, how many watts worth does the lead need to handle? Instead of running single runs of 3000 watt rated tinsels across the spiders, would it be that same to use 3 runs of 1000 watt rated leads? If it would be the same to run 3-1000 watt rated leads, do i run 3 to each coil wire?

One last thing that bothers me too...what is it about tinsel wire? What is in it that makes a thin piece of wire handle 1000-3500 watts? 8 gauge power wire or speaker wire directly to the coil wires won't work? Why

Man that was hard to word right! Sorry if it might not've sounded right but i hope someone can help...thanks
