Default OPTIMA’s Digital 1200 12-Volt Charger

Any one use this charger. Seems to be a good one. I have to buy a AGM Charger. This thing is like 200 bucks. What do you guys think.

I would Never. Ever. Buy that for a car audio application. Sure, it may work great if you have say ONE battery, but as soon as you were to add multiple's it would take absolutely forever for it to top things off. God forbid you want to charge something fast. OP if you're spending that much money, I'd just make sure the charger has all the features you need (different charge rates, battery types, possibly engine start, de-sulfating mode, etc.)

really? bc i have it hooked up 24/7 to 400amp hr of battery
and every single 1 of them were sitting in the low low 12v range.. took 1 day to top them all off
it takes around 2hrs to charge 1 battery 100%
your not supposed to charge over 2.2v per cell
using a 10 to 15amp charger for 1 battery is going to cause ALOT of heat and over repeated charge times itll weaken

a standard wetcell charger will swell up a agm in no time at all
yes they are just another form of lead acid battery
agms charge a DIFFERNT way than a standard wetcell does
but its whatevr
go spend 300 on a GOOD battery and use a 10yr old wetcell charger on it
itll swell within the 1st few times

There's a big difference between a maintainer/tender and a charger.

A maintainer is designed for exactly that, maintaining. They take a long time (by comparison) to charge batteries fully.

A good CHARGER will have multiple charge settings depending on what you have it hooked up to.

Also, it depends on the speed at which you want to charge your batts. For someone like me who competes, I need a charger that can charge my bank relatively quickly (i.e. higher amperage settings).

I actually use both maintainers and chargers. My truck sits on a maintainer year round when not in use. This keeps my bank "topped off" and keeps the batts in good condition. However, when I'm competing or testing I have my xs power charger hooked to it in order to recharge my bank relatively quickly.

Both items have their respective duties.
