Just put my HDC3 12's in my Edge. Threw them in a temporary box until I get the funds for a new one; at least that was the initial plan, but I'm finding they actually sound quite good in the temp box. It's 3.25cf @ 32hz. I was quite surprised how good they sound based on the fact that the box is barely big enough for my old HDC3 10's to be happy. Apparently the new version with the bigger, softer spiders likes smaller boxes better.
ANYWAY, the output is good, but not great. I'm guessing it's doing about 135-40dB from 30-60hz. But I know there's a lot more in them. Even running full tilt off of my AQ2200 @ 1ohm, they're only moving about 1 inch p-p. So my question is: go with a bigger, more efficient box or double up the power and get another AQ2200? The bigger box would be cheaper, but I'd be sacrificing more space in the hatch and I'm not sure how much I could gain by going to say 5cf @ 36hz. Doubling power would definitely increase output, but would also be more expensive since I'd also need another battery.
So here's where I turn the mic over to you guys. Ready? Go!
