Default Whats the difference between active and passive?

My plan for my front stage is 2-3 6.5s and 1 tweet in each door then 2 tweets in each A pillar.

I'm not sure what the difference between active and passive is or which would be better for me. If you have a amp that has a built EQ do you still need the crossovers hooked up as well?

my brain hurts.

Active means the signal is divided at the RCA level before it gets to the amplifiers

Passive means the signal is divided after the amplifier before it gets to the speakers.

Active is better because it's more concise and because the impedance is not a factor {add as amany or as few speakers as you want.. because the amp will only produce the frequencies it is fed}

[impedance must be within the capability of the amplifier]
