Default Help picking an Oscilloscope

So I'm looking to purchase a simple o-scope for setting gains and such. I think I narrowed it down to two but I don't know much about them so I was looking for some help picking. I'm open to others as well if you know of any.

What I would really like is one that has a display and connects to the computer and displays on there but couldn't find one at a reasonable price for a hobbiest.

Here's what I did come up with.

DSO Nano V2 - Pocket-Sized Digital Oscilloscope: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

VELLEMAN HPS140I HANDHELD POCKET SCOPE 40MS/s (probe included): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

I DONT WANT A DD-1

I just read that there were some bugs in the first one that were worked out in the second version. Also the original company doesn't make the v1 any more so the ones you find in ebay for around $70 are knockoffs. There probably built by the same build house and all but I don't think the quality control would be there anymore. And it's only $20 more for v2

Well all I've pretty much came to a decision on what I'm going to buy. It actually turned out to be neither of the two I originally mentioned. Looking into it I found the nano isn't very accurate at all. Many people state its not much better than a toy and while it will likely get you in the ballpark its not going to be good for much of anything else. It does have the colored screen which is very nice but really serves no purpose. The VELLEMAN HPS140I on the other hand is actually pretty decent and would have been my choice until I ran across a unit that did all the things I wanted.

Scope Meter Oscilloscope DSO Digital Multimeter DMM 81B | eBay

This unit is not only a scope but a descent grade dmm as well. In addition it comes with software that allows it to be displayed on the pc which is was I really wanted. Further it can be used with AC power connected and uses AA batteries where the others use a built in lithium battery and cant be used while charging.

I would save your money and buy a real scope. Look into the old Fluke meters made in conjunction with Phillips, if you can. They're excellent for the price, and are a true digital scope. They pop up on eBay often enough.

I'm not really sure what I would gain by getting a higher end scope. I really just want to set my gains with it and this one is probably a bit overkill as it is. I do wish it was a 2 channel but 1 will suffice.

Thats basically what I was going for. A great value tool. Like a harbor freight special lol . I just didn't want to get the dso knowing it wasn't up to par.

B&k for real amp testing but if your not in the buisness of fixing elec equipment I like dso nano, just make sure it has 10x scope probe so you can scope over 80v.
