Default ipod to LOC vs ipod, stock HU to LOC?

Debating whether or not I want to install the factory unit again.

My dad drives the car sometimes (best gas mileage of our vehicles) and I KNOW he will **** with the EQ settings on the head unit.

Is there any advantage to having the head unit between the ipod and the line out converter?

Right now:

Ipod > 3.5mm to RCA > LOC > amps

It would be:

Ipod > 3.5mm > stock unit > LOC > amps

Why are you using an LOC for the Ipod? Run 3.5-RCA straight to amp...Ipods don't put out much for voltage at all...If ANYTHING, I could see you wanting an eq/line driver in between ipod and amp to boost the voltage....

That is what I am doing now

Here is the full setup:

Ipod > 3.5mm to rca > LOC > splitters on each output of the LOC >

pac LC1 > RCA's going to my sub amp

rca's going to a crossover > rca's going to the 2 channel amp

What is your reason behind the LOC? A "Line output converter" is to cut high signal...And, How do you have RCA's running IN to an LOC?

I am either missing something, Or you have an unnecessary step in your setup.

Explain to me which piece you have that boosts your voltage?

An LC-1 is jsut a gain controller, no boosting within that piece.

Forgot to mention it's a cache cloc'd LOC/Line driver

It has the speaker inputs for the LOC, and the RCA inputs for the line driver aspect.

Lol that makes far more sense. You are not using it for LOC, Rather only for the line driver aspect. And you are asking whether it would be better to add the deck inline before this piece?

What are you assuming you will gain by adding a deck? If I were to do anything, I would use an EQ, Ex. Kicker KQ5 and use that as the EQ/Line driver. Rather than your "LOC" that way you have more control. Other than that, I see nothing wrong with the way you have it right now..Other than you do have 2 volume controls, The Ipod and the LC-1, Why not eliminate the LC and just use the Ipod volume? Assuming you set your amps up so max volume on the Ipod was clean and loud enough for you.

Edit: Ah, I see now, you are using the LC-1 ONLY for Sub, and the other 2 out of your Cache peice are going to a 2 channel I am guessing, for high end?

Yeah the LC-1 is to adjust the sub level. I wanted to get another one to adjust the highs/mids.

The reason I ask is because I notice some distortion at near max volume and I never experienced that before. I'm guessing the LOC/line driver is the cause of that, but I'm not sure.

It's hard to say because it typically only happens at high volume, and I don't really notice anything at lower volume (when it's useless)

Yeah I'd imagine it is the line driver...Does anyone around you have a scope?

I would honestly check the ipod for clean signal at whatever volume u normally go to, and then check on the output of line driver to assure that is clean, if that thing is putting out high voltage, may be sending some clipped signal into amps, causing clipped to come out...Scopes are amazing for thigns like this. But no, I don't think a factory deck would help you at all....

I've got the ipod volume limited to around 90%. Say what you want, but I have a good ear for distortion and I just sort of set it to what sounded good. No problems other than now, with the cloc'd. I don't think it was the crossover either. Seemed to be fine with the last unit I had.

I will try running the front stage without the crossover and seeing what that does.

The tweeters have their little capacitor bass blocker on them already, but I like my highs cleaner than that so I have the crossover on 2k and it's perfect for what I like.
