Default Sundown Z v.2 15 Metal Clang Noise

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums at CACO!

But to my problem:

I have a Sundown Z v.2 15 I got from a buddy who thinks it's broken.
It may be a coil problem because when I press in on it, I get a coil scraping noise, but what confuses me is that when I turn the woofer on its side, I hear a metal clanging noise, like something is sliding to that side.

I am wondering if someone knows what this problem is? I looked around for answers and could only find people complaining about voice coil issues - not about metal clanging. Also if you know what the problem is, how to address it? I'd like to keep the sub. I don't know if it just needs a simple recone or more?

Thanks to anyone with any help!

put a DMM on each set of terminals to see if you have an open coil. scraping could either be wires from the coil unraveled or the former bubbled. no other visual damage, triple joint, spiders, ect.

Sounds to me it's blown and something inside came apart. Simple test for ya: Take any size battery AA or even AAA and connect a piece of speaker wire to each terminal to the battery. Should move inward or outward. If it doesn't move at all, it's def blown. Will more than likely need a recone.

sounds to me like coil is in 2 pieces and you just need to do a recone.

Thanks for the input guys!
I'll run those tests tomorrow and hopefully figure this all out. Most likely will just recone it. Anyone know how much a recone for a Z v.2 15 costs off hand?

I have a 12 doing something that sounds similar. I may tear it down this week and see what is happening
