Default Hertz or JL?

Price not being a problem, which is better? The Hertz HSK 165 or JL's equivalent performing set (no clue what it would be, probably the C3-650?)?

the Hertz are 550 and the JL's are 400 on sonicelectronix. So if the Hertz are generally better/more durable/sound cleaner/etc I'd pay the extra 150... Plus I may can get the Hertz price to drop a about 50 or so

Is there a way you can hear them in person? Having a demo would help.

I can preview C2's in person actually installed in a car and I will probably do that soon so I can get an idea of how C3's will sound, and I can preview the Hertz in a display and maybe in a car if I get lucky and catch the dealer finishing up a car.

But either way, the only info I have is each dealer telling me his product is superior over the other. They are both local and on the same street, so they like to smack talk each others products. I don't know what I'm looking at when I look at speakers and amps for them, so I have no clue how to compare them. Any advice?

Your always gonna hear one is better then the other. To cut the BS...go listen with your ears. That's what most people will say. And with diff music too. Moderate volume, not too loud, or distorted.

Yea, one product line up doesn't really mean much. I actually like the energy line more than the hsk line. the only line I like more is the mille. As for the JLs, the ZR s are the only line I like, but then again, that's my opinion. you have to make the decision.

Some salesmen will say whatever it takes to make the sale. Objectively listen to each set and try to keep the playing field level. I'm sure you'll be happy either way so go with your gut feeling.

How they sound in your car will be very install dependent to keep that in mind. Good luck!

Like Burkem said, getting the most out of a $500 component set is going to depend a lot on install/deadening/tuning. There are a lot of decent components out there for that price range, it's just about bringing them to life with a good install. I was thinking about getting these for my next set.
