Default DC Power Alts

So Im looking into investing into a Dual Alt set up for my 04 Tahoe Z71 and I was wondering whats the best DC Power Engineering Alt for my set up.

(2) 18" AQ HDC3s on (2) MB Quart Discus 2000.1Ds and then a PPI 580.4 for my Front Stage. Ive got 4 runs of Knu 1/0 and 5 Optima Red Tops for my Battery Bank(all Jumpers are Knu 1/0)

Whats the Best DC Power Alt for this set up? XP, SPX, SPX-i?? 270A, 300A, 320A?? For those running the DC Alts, what set up are you running?

XP is literally a tank. The best alternator I have ever owned, and just a crazy beast that works without fail. You're not going to get a bad alt, doesn't matter what you choose. If you have the budget get the XP. If you don't, then get what you can afford. The SPs are actually beast alts for the power and price.

Two American bass 1000.1s on 4 D3100s and 5 D6500s with a DC 270XP. I drop to about 12.5 full tilt, slowly down to 12, and never below 11.5. I'm throwing a second alt on at some point.

Btw, my DC has been on for 40K miles and it's still beast.

I suggest just getting another XP. Unless of course budget is a little tight then the SP or SSX would do fine

Call DC and ask. They should know better then anyone on a forum.

I highly doubt you need dual alts for that set up.

As mentioned 270xp is a beast....

@mike

I called multiple times and cant get an answer and I emailed them about a week or so ago and nothing.

I get really bad voltage drop after about 6-8 seconds of Full tilt. Im talking it drops to like 10.3. from 14.6, Ive only done that maybe 3-4 times but I dont want to risk the equipment. Im assuming its the Red Tops that suck. I have the Big 3, 4 runs of 1/0, So I may need to replace the Optimas with some Nice XS or something but just havent looked into lately.

I figured Ide just run the Stock 155A one and then add a 270A xp because of the Amps it puts out at idle.
Anything else that could be going wrong?

Red tops are good for burping but demos not so much. Unfortunately that is also the batteries I have as I got all 4 of brand brand new for 100 bucks!

Please, for the love of god, do NOT let it get that low again. Until you get a 270XP or something, keep a close eye on that voltage. Anything lower than, sort of 12v is bad. Some people drop to mid 11's but I wouldn't.

As said, ONE 270XP should see you right. If you upgrade at a later date, get another.
The thing about alternators is; in stock form they are only mildly 'tuned' (if you like). For instance, I have just bought a run around, it has a 70A alternator that, unless I'm sitting over 2k rpm (not very often - diesel) I am only getting 40A from the bad boy!
Your stock one, I suspect yours is only putting out 90 odd amps at low rpm/idle, that right there is your problem.

Are any of your 0awg runs, negative? As in, alternator casing to rear batteries? If not, I'd change one out - see if your voltage stabilises any...
