Default Bass knob clip lights?

I see the trend with a lot of companies is moving towards having this feature. What is the general consensus as to how accurate these are?

Some have circuits to detect dc current, and some illuminate or flicker when near or at rail voltage... id set gains proper before trusting the clip light completely my self

I always try to do it that way but gain setting seems to be tricky. What I mean is I can set my gain on a 50hz tone with no clipping but then some music tracks will still cause clipping. I think because of the fact that music is recorded and mastered at so many different levels. Unless I am just doing something wrong.

I'll be honest, I only pick amps that have clip lights, not saying they're accurate but it's nice to have an idea. And I don't spend as much time tuning an amp with the clip lights and I have yet to have a problem

My clip light went off on my BC3500 at almost any volume...I once hooked up power a little JL 8" sub(150watt sub) and it still went off on it. Maybe mine was defective but a voltage meter would be 10x more useful than it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but your electrical system also has a huge role in clipping. Bad ground = early clipping, same goes for excessive voltage drop. So it is theoretically possible to clip a 10k power block on a single 8, which will produce simply staggering amounts of smoke very quickly.

Were you overdriving the input stage, maybe?
